James Riely Gordon (1863-1937) Drawings and Papers, ca. 1890-1937

Gordon (1863-1937), an architect who practiced in both San Antonio and New York City, was best-known for his Richardsonian Romanesque designs of public buildings, especially courthouses. He was active in professional organizations such as the American Institute of Architects and its chapters in and around New York City, constantly seeking to improve professional standards. Contains 6,500 drawings, 13 linear feet of architectural records, and 1,600 photographs representing more han 300 buildings and documenting both the Texas and New York phases of Gordon's career (1890-1937). Work of one of his later partners, Alfred Zucker, is represented here by architectural drawings for buildings in New York constructed during the 1890s.
